To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the “Dalada Maligawa” - Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. ever since the 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha's Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess' hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. Kandy is now another “World Heritage Site” in Sri Lanka.

It is considered Sri Lanka's most prized possession, Close by are the remains of the Royal Palace (“Maha Wasala”), “Palle Wasala”- where the Queens stayed-now used for the National Museum, “Meda Wasala” where other close relatives lived, Audience Hall, Natha Devala and Vishnu Devala are situated close by. Kandy is a historical hilly city and former capital of Sri Lanka, situated 116 km from Colombo which is alma ost 3 ½ drive, Because of its location, surrounded by green hills, jungles, and waterfalls Kandy gives you a pleasant environment to roam around. There are 5 Palm Avenues, the earliest and tallest Palm Avenue (Royal Palm Avenue) was planted in 1905, and the Double Coconuts from Seychelles Island. Our next stop is the Great Buddha Statue on Bahirawa Kanda hill, this statue of Buddha is 88 feet high and the view of Kandy city from this hill is astonishingly beautiful. Now we proceed to Kandy Lake, which is located in front of the temple of the tooth in the center of Kandy city downtown. You get countless restaurants and shops around the lake, you may also enjoy a boat ride in the lake, it is built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama, its circumference is almost 3.21 km and the deepest floor of the lake is almost 60 feet. Lake is well surrounded by downtown Kandy. This area is filled with a mixture of High-class modern shopping malls and congested old shops area, you may visit the vicinity (if time allows) during your visit to Lake and Temple.The next destination for the tour is the Temple of Tooth where the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined. Millions of visitors; Buddhists and Non-Buddhist visit the temple to offer their tributes to the great Buddha every year. It is not only holy but it is the remark of great astonishing architecture. Day 03

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage,

Appx. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo-Kandy Road is Pinnawala, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house abandoned and wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 65 now; including Baby Elephants brought from various parts of Sri Lanka, as well as some of the more than 25 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding program. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.
